Statement on the arrest of Bangladesh leader Saber Chowdhury

9 October 2024

We are deeply concerned about the recent arrest of Saber Hossain Chowdhury.

We were privileged to have worked closely with Saber, who is one of the pioneers of the Parliamentarians for a Fossil-Free Future. We were witness to his unwavering commitment, to the global fight against climate change. His deep knowledge, clear articulation, and steadfast leadership galvanized our collective efforts. We know him to be a person of honor and integrity, with a distinguished career in public service.

As we await the outcome of the investigation, we urge authorities to ensure that justice prevails, guided by the principles of due process, fairness, impartiality, and an uncompromising search for truth.
