Media Launch: Global Parliamentarians’ Inquiry for a Fossil-Free Amazon

The new global inquiry aims to leverage the influence of parliamentarians to investigate progress in the phase out of fossil fuels, specifically oil and gas, in the Amazon region, and explore opportunities for the phase-in of renewable energy systems in a just and equitable manner.

  • The official launch of the Amazon Inquiry will be held on August 20-22, 2024, the first-year anniversary of Ecuador's popular consultation vote to stop and ban oil exploitation in Yasuní National Park in the Amazon.

  • Hearings and other related activities will be held from 2024 to 2025, with the outcomes scheduled to be presented at COP30 in Belem.
