Asia’s Coal Phase-Down: Key Takeaways and Shared Pathways

  • Asia Climate Solutions Pavilion, Blue Zone (Area E, D6A) (map)

Organizer: Solutions for Our Climate

Speaker: Nepal MP Anjan Shakya

Asia faces the urgent need to mitigate climate change and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. As countries aim to align their economies with climate goals, phasing out coal becomes essential in advancing a sustainable and just energy transition. However, the pathways to coal phase-out are complex and varied, influenced by differing economic structures, energy demands, financing options, and socio-political factors.

The event aims to create a platform for policymakers, civil society, and energy sector experts to exchange lessons learned from countries and regions across Asia that have taken concrete steps toward accelerating coal phase-out. Additionally, it will provide a forum to discuss common barriers such as economic constraints and explore strategies to effectively address these challenges.
